Extra information
Many animals wear their nails naturally, for example in dogs by walking on sidewalks. Some rodents keep their own nails short. If nails become too long, this can cause many complaints.
It is therefore important to check the nails regularly and cut them where necessary.
The scissors can be used for rodents, rabbits, dogs and cats. Hold your pet to ensure you can trim its nails safely. Most pets don’t really like the clipping and will try to get away. Make sure you don’t cut the blood vessels. If your pet’s nails are light in color, you can see the vessels as a dark pink spot. With dark nails you cannot see this. Then it is certainly important not to cut too far. Then cut only the tip of the nail. If you cut too far, it will often bleed. Fortunately it stops on its own, but you can also use some flour to stop the bleeding.
Tip: many veterinarians are willing to help you trim the nails. Or ask one of our volunteers if you ever visit our shelter. There are also pet stores that can help you with nail clipping.
